Being Age Friendly

This session explores why ‘Being Age Friendly’ should be everyone’s business and has been designed using the expertise of Buzz’s age friendly neighbourhoods team, Buzz’s knowledge and information service, the World Health Organisation, Age Friendly Manchester and local older residents.

The aim of this session is to challenge stigmas around ageing, improve knowledge around what the World Health Organisation recommend when building age friendly communities and encourage attendees to think about their own inclusive practice and how things could be improved for older people accessing their group/service.

This session is interactive and enables learners to build on their knowledge whilst participating in fun and educational activities. This session will also familiarise learners with actions that are being taken in the city, regionally and nationally to create age friendly services, age friendly neighbourhoods and the steps being taken towards age equality.

By the end of this course, you will:

  • Understand what is meant by ‘Age Friendly’
  • Be equipped with new learning to support an open and inclusive approach to working with older residents
  • Be familiar with successful projects which are currently supporting the development of age friendly neighbourhoods
  • Identify ways that you can support the development of age friendly neighbourhoods where you work/live
  • Have access to a communications and engagement checklist to further improve your involvement of older people within your service/group/community.
