Level 3 Facilitating Self-help Groups

People often find it helpful to come together to share their experiences and get support in a group setting.

The aim of this two-day accredited unit is to help you run effective groups with the emphasis on developing and practising group work skills that are applicable across a wide range of different types of group work. 

This two-day accredited unit enables participants to:

Understand the purpose of group rules/working agreements and know how to formulate them
Leaf Image
Understand the difference between self-help group and 1-to-1 working
Leaf Image
Understand the stages of group formation and the facilitation styles required at each stage
Leaf Image
Understand the challenges self-help groups present and how to respond appropriately
Leaf Image
Be able to plan and implement self-help groups

Dates: Wednesday 5th and Thursday 6th 2026 or Thursday 3 and Friday 4 December – NEW!

Times:  10am to 4pm

Venue:  Room 3 and Conference Room 7, The Curve, Greater Manchester Mental Health NHS Foundation Trust, Bury New Road, Prestwich, Manchester M25 3BL

Fee: £100 payable on completion of the course. Five free places available for GMMH volunteers, subject to availability.
