An Introduction to Improv for Mental Wellbeing

Improv (short for improvisation) is a form of theatre or comedy that involves making things up as you go along. Like recovery journeys, improv can involve unexpected twists and turns and ultimately opens up a world of different opportunities.

At its core, improv is about being in the present moment, listening, exploring different perspectives and having fun in the process. Improv can have huge benefits for mental wellbeing, giving you tools and experiences that can help in your day to day life, and importantly giving you a safe space to play!

This is not a session for comedians, but will provide plenty of laughs and try out a range of exercises and games that will help us find the funny together.

During this session you will

  • Be introduced to some of the founding concepts of improv and how we can use this to improve our mental wellbeing
  • Participate in improv games and exercises in a safe and supportive environment
  • Have a chance to leave the daily life behind and to play
