This course will support you to increase understanding of Body Dysmorphic Disorder (BDD), explore the impact of social media and body image, recognise helpful and unhelpful thinking patterns, and identify practical strategies and sources of support.
Learning Objectives:
By the end of the training programme, participants will:
- Describe what Body Dysmorphic Disorder (BDD) is and distinguish it from normal appearance concerns.
- Recognise signs and symptoms of BDD and identify the key diagnostic criteria.
- Recognise how BDD can occur alongside other mental health difficulties and understand the impact this can have on an individual’s wellbeing and recovery.
- Understand how social media, image-driven culture, and digital technologies can influence body image, self-esteem, and comparison.
- Identify the cycle of comparison, obsessive thinking, and safety behaviours that can maintain BDD.
- Apply supportive communication when interacting with someone affected by BDD
- Explore evidence-based coping strategies and recovery approaches that can help individuals manage BDD and improve wellbeing.
- Develop a personalised wellbeing and support plan.
- Know where to seek further support including Peer and Professional help options.
