Let’s Talk about Suicide

The World Health Organisation describes suicide as a global concern, stating that close to 800,000 people worldwide lose their life through suicide every year. Feeling suicidal does not mean someone is weak, it is a symptom of persistent psychological pain that people often find difficult to see through.

Supporting those who feel suicidal is everyone’s business, however one of the biggest barriers in doing so is often stigma. People are often fearful talking about suicide when feeling this way or trying to support someone.

It’s time to break the stigma surrounding suicide, the biggest killer of men under 49 and women aged between 20 to 34 in the region. Join us on this one day course encouraging people to talk about suicide.

Talking about suicide does not cause someone to feel suicidal, however it may just help save someone’s life.

Let’s Talk About Suicide aims to:

  • Increase confidence in discussing suicide
  • Challenge the stigma and myths that surround suicide
  • Explore the common risk factors that are associated with suicide
  • Increase understanding around protective factors and safety plans
  • Identify appropriate signposting information to support people in accessing support.
